Phosphorus Removal from Wastewater
Phosphorus wastewater effluent limits are placed upon many municipal and industrial facilities to minimize eutrophication in receiving waters. Phosphorus is a nutrient that is a major Eutrophication cause. Eutrophication caused water quality problems include rapid algae growth, depleted oxygen levels and poorer drinking water quality.

Example of Eutrophication: Algae Bloom in Waterway
Phosphorus Removal Solutions
Aluminum (Al) and iron (Fe) salts are typically used to precipitate Phosphorus out of solution, so it can be removed as a solid (clarified or filtered). A newer chemistry is a “rare earth” product Aries 613 that precipitates phosphorus and produces less sludge.
- Aluminum salts
- Aluminum Sulfate
- Aluminum Chloride
- Polyaluminum Chloride
- Aluminum Chlorohydrate
- Iron salts
- Ferric Chloride
