Aries Improves Paper Mill Raw Water Quality To Increase Sheet Brightness

Posted in

A paper mill found that it needed better raw water quality to produce a new brighter white grade. The mill’s existing system treated river water with coarse screens and bleach addition. The maximum brightness that could be produced with this process was approximately 80. Aries Chemical was asked to provide a solution to improve the mill’s raw water treatment process. Aries surveyed the paper mill’s existing raw water treatment system and sent raw water samples…

Aries Designs, Builds, Installs Wastewater Treatment And Recycle System At Metal Plating Facility

Posted in

Aries has completed the start up of a new Micro Filter (MF) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) based High Recovery wastewater treatment system at a Northeastern metal plating facility. The recycle system is designed to treat 140 gpm with 80 % recovery. The new system reduced water usage and improved water quality. The metal plating facility had out grown its existing 45 gpm wastewater system. The lack of wastewater treatment capacity prevented the facility from maintaining…

Aries Solves Mercury Discharge Problem At HazMat Waste Handling Firm

Posted in

A hazardous waste handling firm was struggling to meet its mercury effluent discharge limit of 0.2 mg/l. Aries Chemical was contacted for a solution. Aries audit of its wastewater treatment process suggested that improved chemical treatment was required to properly precipitate the mercury from solution. The incumbent calcium sulfide based treatment process had poor coagulation, so colloidal mercury was left in suspension. Aries performed a series of laboratory treatability studies to develop an improved process…

Magnesium Hydroxide for Anaerobic Digester

Posted in

A recycled papermill treats approximately 1.4 million gallons of process wastewater per day. The wastewater has high BOD levels. Wastewater is processed utilizing an anaerobic digester followed by an aerobic activated sludge system. The activated sludge system is clarified with a dissolved air flotation clarifier prior to discharge. Urea and phosphoric acid are added to the system to provide nitrogen and phosphorus as nutrients. Caustic Soda was historically used to control pH and alkalinity in…

Wastewater Equipment Enables Slaughterhouse To Increase Production

Posted in

A pork slaughterhouse business that has been a long time Aries customer had experienced a significant business increase. The increased production resulted in the need to upgrade the plant’s wastewater treatment system. Aries was asked to engineer and provide upgraded wastewater equipment. Aries had supplied chemicals to the customer since 1995, designed, built and supplied a DAF in 2005 and designed and supplied an activated sludge system in 2010. Aries Engineering and Equipment Group was…

Aries Biological Wastewater Treatment Systems

Posted in

Meat Processor Activated Sludge System Aries designed and supplied components for an activated sludge system for a meat processor needing to reduce their final effluent’s BOD concentration. Prior to the upgrade the meat processor operated a primary DAF for wastewater treatment. Aries designed the activated sludge system for 100,000 gals / day of process wastewater. The activated sludge system was installed to treat the primary DAF effluent. The upgraded system included an 134,000 gals activated…

Defoamer Solves a Multitude of Problems at Papermill

Posted in

After a significant raw material change a specialty paper mill making a variety of industrial grade products struggled with excessive foam in its white water and wastewater systems. The excessive foam contributed to safety and environmental issues. At times, excessive foam would spill onto the floor creating a slippery and unsafe condition. On certain grades, excessive foam generation carried through into the wastewater treatment lagoons. And sometimes this foam would blow off the property which…
